Also known as: Azithromycin
Azomex is in a group of drugs called macrolide antibiotics. Azomex fights bacteria in the body. Azomex is used to treat many different types of infections caused by bacteria, such as respiratory infections, skin infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted diseases. Azomex may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of Azomex Tablets and other antibacterial drugs, Azomex Tablets should be used only to treat infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria. When culture and susceptibility information are available, they should be considered in selecting or modifying antibacterial therapy. In the absence of such data, local epidemiology and susceptibility patterns may contribute to the empiric selection of therapy.
Azomex Tablets are a macrolide antibacterial drug indicated for the treatment of patients with mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible strains of the designated microorganisms in the specific conditions listed below.
Azomex is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the nose, throat, lungs, bronchitis, ear, skin, soft tissues, and sexually transmitted genital and urinary infections.
Azomex is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic of the azalide class. Like other macrolide antibiotics, Azomex inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of the bacterial 70S ribosome. Binding inhibits peptidyl transferase activity and interferes with amino acid translocation during the process of translation. Its effects may be bacteriostatic or bactericidal depending of the organism and the drug concentration. Its long half life, which enables once daily dosing and shorter administration durations, is a property distinct from other macrolides.
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label. The dose and length of treatment with Azomex may not be the same for every type of infection.
You may take most forms of Azomex with or without food.
Take Azomex extended release liquid (oral suspension) on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
To use the oral suspension single dose packet: Open the packet and pour the medicine into 2 ounces of water. Stir this mixture and drink all of it right away. Do not save for later use. To make sure you get the entire dose, add a little more water to the same glass, swirl gently and drink right away.
Throw away any mixed Azomex oral suspension that has not been used within 12 hours.
Shake the oral suspension well just before you measure a dose. Measure the liquid with a special dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup, not with a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
Take this medicine for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to antibiotics. Azithromycin will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Throw away any unused liquid medicine after 10 days.
